What is an Enzyme Spa?

Enzyme Spa is a traditional Japanese deep heating ritual tracing its origins over 90 years. Made from a unique blend of rice bran, pinewood sawdust and Japanese enzymes carefully sourced from organic fruits, vegetables, mushrooms and seaweeds grown in Hokkaido, Japan. This warming, dry spa releases tension, detoxifies the body and both invigorates and softens skin.

Enzymes are biological catalysts which are essential for life and the key ingredient in our Enzyme Spa. Our own bodies have over 5000 kinds of vital enzymes, all of which have unique characteristics and functions in breaking down toxins.

Here at ikoi, we’ve worked with Super Ohtaka in Hokkaido, Japan to create the original and uncompromised dry Enzyme Spa. A blend of rice bran, pinewood sawdust and enzyme essences from over 50 carefully selected organic fruits, vegetables, mushrooms and seaweeds all combined in a fermentation process with sugar beet.

The Enzyme Spa Process

Your therapist will then cover your body with the Enzyme Blend. Now you simply relax as your body detoxifies and absorbs the enzymes dispersed throughout the spa while a scalp and shoulder acupressure massage being performed to enhance your relaxation.

Step 4: Post Spa
After you step out, your therapist will help brush away any remaining sawdust before leaving you to rinse off in our luxury rainforest shower.

Step 5: Detox Time
In the relaxation area, you will be served an Enzyme juice while you rest for 10 minutes to allow your body to recuperate its body temperature.

FAQ

Q. How does the Enzyme Spa work - how is it heated?

A. The heat in the Enzyme Spa is generated by a natural fermentation process of untreated pinewood sawdust. The heat is contained within the bath and stimulates your body, leaving you feeling warmed from within while your body heals, cleanses and detoxifies.

Q. Is the Enzyme Spa clean?

A. Yes,

  • The Enzyme Spa is a self-cleansing medium which breaks down toxins.
  • Careful maintenance of the spa is carried out every day and the sawdust is changed weekly in order to ensure cleanliness, quality and a consistent temperature.
  • The high temperature, the fermentation process and the low pH level of the wood fibres work together to create a hygienic environment.
  • A coating of material (sawdust) that sticks to your body while you are in the tub absorbs perspiration.
  • After you come out of the bath, your therapist will assist you to brush off the sawdust from your body outside the tub.

Q. What should I wear in the spa?

A. Your therapist will provide you with disposable underwear.

Q. Will there be other people in the spa with me?

A. No, the spa is private but can accommodate 1 or 2 people.

Q. Will I feel claustrophobic in the spa?

A. The experience is designed to relax you. You will feel gently supported by the pinewood and warmed from within, not confined. The fibres in the spa are lightweight allowing you to easily move your arms and legs to reposition yourself during the treatment. While many guests prefer to be immersed in the spa up to their chins, we will gladly work with you to find your comfort level and can adjust the spa fibres once you’re in.

A. Those who:

  • Have high blood pressure (over 200 mmHg)
  • Suffer from cardiovascular disease
  • Are pregnant

  • Have open wounds
  • Have recently consumed high levels of alcohol
